Performances will be adjudicated by a panel of three judges based on five categories. Their scores will be averaged to determine the routine final score.
Technique & Foundation
Quality of movement and understanding of proper fundamentals used within the genre
Creativity & Originality
Use of interesting concepts, unique movement, transitions, formations, musicality and costuming
Staging & Dynamics
The overall use of the stage area and levels (floor, mid-level and air). Demonstration of powerful and variable movements.
Execution & Difficulty
The complexity and skill level of the choreography and the level of control including, speed and body placement throughout the routine
Performance & Entertainment
The values of showmanship and stage presence, including emotion, intensity, elegance and confidence on stage.

Ruby: 93-94.9

Gold: 85 – 89.9
Silver: 80 – 84.9
Bronze: 75 – 79.9
All entries will be given a score and a ribbon based on their score. Scores will be sent to the studio director upon the completion of competition.
Judges will also award specials for stand out routines that piqued their interest each award session.
Placements
Entries with three or more entries in the category will also receive placements.
Solos/Duos/Trios
Dancers will receive a ribbon.
1st – 3rd will also be awarded a placement medallion.
Groups (Small, Large, Lines and Productions)
Each dancer will receive a ribbon.
1st – 3rd will be awarded placement pins.

deductions & disqualifications
VSDC is a fair and family-friendly competition. Please assure costume and movements are appropriate and that music does not include explicit words (in any language), or referring to violence and/or other inappropriate content.
If dance movements, music lyrics, or costuming are deemed to be too suggestive or otherwise inappropriate for our family audience as determined by judges may results in deductions or in extreme cases disqualification.
If determined by VSDC director and/or judges that this has been violated, the routine will be scored, but may not be given awards or overalls.
Deductions applied by judges or the competition director at their discretion.
Disqualifications are applied by the competition director.
Examples of deductions:
- Inappropriate costumes for age group (up to 3% deducted)
- Music contains explicit language (up to 3% deducted
- Routine is placed in the wrong category (up to 3% deducted)
- Choreography is not appropriate for the age group (up to 3% deducted)
Examples of disqualifications:
- Unsportsmanlike conduct
- Unapproved substitutions
- Taking photos or video of entry
- Failure to adhere to the VSDC rules and regulations

- Additional overalls may be awarded at the discretion of director depending on number of entries in respective groups.
- For all the overalls – there must be three or more to have overall placing.
- Divisions may be combined at the discretion of the director depending on number of entries in respective groups.
- Soloists may enter multiple solos, however, only their individual highest score will be considered for highest solo overall awards.

Versastyle National Champions
Top average score (based on 10 highest scoring entries) of the year across all our Canadian competitions receives their studio name etched on to the trophy and will have the honour of displaying the trophy at their studio until next season.
Champions receives a Versastyle National Champion banner.
They will also receive 5 free group entries to defend their title next season.
additional notes
- There must be at least 10 studios and at least 200 entries to award BOTH a Top Small & Top Large Studio
- If there are not enough small or large studios in respective categories, all studios will be combined.
- To qualify as a small studio, the studio must have under 60 entries.
- To qualify as a large studio, the studio must have 60+ entries.
- To qualify for Top Studio, a studio must register at least 20 routines with at least five groups in the competitions.
- Defending title awards expire if not used in the following season.
- Versastyle National Champion trophy will be displayed at the winner’s studio for the season, but must be returned before first comp of subsequent season.
- VSDC has the right to make changes to overall and grand awards.
